CHRIS WEIGHS IN ON “I Know What To Do But Just Can’t Lose Weight”

The #1 comment we hear from overweight clients is “I’ve tried EVERYTHING and just can’t lose weight!”

If you have more body fat than you want, it’s because you have been consuming more calories than you have been burning. But what caused you to have this calorie surplus in the first place??

There are plenty of gurus and experts around to tell you why… and they all know the “best” way to lose that excess fat. This is because they each are heavily vested in their own theory and wrote a book or created a whole program around their ideology to prove it!! Don’t let them fool you into believing there is just one thing to blame and if your way to having your dream body. Here are a few examples of what they say is your excuse or what they promise will finally set you would just buy into their program you will be enlightened and be on free from being fat:

Ø  ->Low carb diets that drastically reduce carbs

Ø -> Low fat diets or diet that stresses 1 kind of fat (Mediterranean diet)

Ø  ->Low glycemic index diets that stress certain specific carbs

Ø  ->Inflammation (Elimination diets)

Ø ->Need for detox (Cleansing diets)

Ø  ->Adrenal fatigue

Ø  ->Hormones – leptin, insulin, cortisol, thyroid, testosterone, 5HTP, growth hormone, menopause

Ø  ->Deficiency of some sort-vitamin, calcium, CLA, amino acid etc

Ø -> Your blood type

Ø  ->Your metabolic type (macronutrient ratio diets)

Ø  ->Certain antioxidants

Ø  ->The “fat” gene

Ø -> Metabolic Syndrome

Although there may be grains of truth in each of these, they are isolated pieces of the larger problem. Obesity is never cured by targeting one factor.

Healthy bodies don’t have trouble losing fat with diet and exercise.

In my experience, people don’t even get close to doing all the right things as they claim. If they manage to do the right things, they last a couple of days to a couple of weeks and think they’ve done all they could and just CAN’T lose weight.

The real truth is: the  #1 reason healthy people are overweight is because they overeat. We teach clients from the ground up what to eat when and how to exercise to burn fat. And most importantly how to “stick” with it. To get something you’ve never had you have to do something you’ve never done.

Many people blame injuries for being overweight. You may be unaware but there is a bodybuilding wheelchair division. Do you think these buff guys don’t have any limitations?

You can keep on making excuses. How bad do you want it?  We are your excuse buster.

Why would you think you know what to do if you have a weight issue?  Because you have watched the talk shows with the experts?  The infomercials?  The magazines?  If your education was provided by late night TV, or so-called organized programs, you probably don’t know what to do. 

In my opinion successful weight loss starts with a clear reason why you want and need to lose weight. The next step is to educate yourself.   When I went through this process I was overwhelmed and confused.  I was angry because of the mixed messages that infiltrate our society.  I realized I could stay angry or do something about easing the way for other people in my situation.  That is why I became a Personal Trainer and  Nutritional Fitness Coach.  Some of what you know is accurate, most is outright wrong.   What we need to do is fairly simple, but how can a food or fitness company take your money if you aren’t buying their product?    These companies create a gimmick, hire doctor or expert to convince you of the benefits of what only their product can provide and the cycle of misinformation begins and snowballs.

Granted this is simplified, but this is the start of everything you need to know:

->Exercise often, and exercise properly.    
 

->There is a lot more to exercise than cardio or moving some weights around.
 

->Buy fresh foods, whole grains, less processed foods.  Eat out less often.

->Get enough rest.

->Question everything you read, know, or have been told and then make informed decisions.
 

->Be patient.  Miracles do not happen overnight.   But you will see great improvement in a surprisingly short period of time when you approach this process correctly.

We work with clients to make everything manageable.  We teach you the truths when it comes to spending your hard earned money on fitness and nutrition.   Education is key!  We show you how to exercise safely and with results.   We know what to do, and so do our clients.

I would like to share my original goal and why I believe I was successful in losing 110 lbs.  I wanted to become healthier because I witnessed two family members who were dealing with serious chronic disease  directly associated with obesity.  I didn’t worry about the weight.  When you focus on what is healthy, everything else falls into place.

Bonus tip:  

Try this tip during the week to burn up a few more calories and keep your metabolism in high gear.  Walk with a sense of urgency during the day!   Whether at work, shopping or at home, walk as if you were running late for a meeting and you have to hurry.  If you are exercising right and eating right, but shuffling during the day, you are losing an opportunity to burn more calories and increase your energy!
